The CRY! – 3rd ROAD BLOG from their Summer 2015 U.S. Tour

The Portland-based rock ‘n roll band, The CRY!, is currently on their summer 2015 U.S. tour, support their new album, Dangerous Game. While they are on this tour, they will be doing an exclusive blog for us. You can check out the third entry, with photos, after the break.

Monday, Aug. 17: Woke up pretty late but still had time to film my “spot of the day” for my Instagram. I film a skateboard trick every day wherever we are and post it with the show info for that day. You can follow me @thecorsh. Early show today ’cause the venue was all ages. We love all ages shows because we of course want everyone who wants to see us to be able to, so we always jump on those whenever we can. Tony and his wife run Blvd Trash in Tulsa, OK. It’s part music venue and part rock ‘n’ roll clothing, records, and accessories shop. They even bought some of the earrings I make and sell at our merch table for extra cash. Always good to have a tour hustle, every little bit helps. The show was awesome and everyone was having fun dancing and singing along. Afterwards we went back to Tony and Michelle’s bar and kept the party rolling till close, and then kept it rolling till dawn again at their house, drinking and talking about music again. It was an awesome few days and we can’t thank Tony and Michelle enough for treating us so well. Can’t wait to be back.

Tuesday, Aug. 18: Drove five or so hours to Dallas, TX. Nothing too exciting. The usual music, podcasts, and reading for me. I’m currently reading Grapes of Wrath and whichever Pork Magazine is nearest to me. Radiolab, stuff you should know, Joe Rogan’s and Marc Maron’s podcasts are my favorite at the moment. And I’ve been listening to a lot of Beach Boys and Beatles lately. The show was really fun, good stage and felt really good tonight. Afterwards it got wild out front of the venue. They kicked everyone out at 2 a.m. Ray started impromptu rapping with some homeless dudes and girls started dancing, everyone was stomping beats. Got a great video of it all we gotta get on YouTube soon. Finally got some laundry done and our friend Berry made us breakfast and gave us some extra food for the road. Heading to San Antonio, TX, tonight.

Wednesday, Aug. 19: Another five-hour or so drive today to San Antonio. Played a bar called Jacks. Last night was Lost Elements’ last show with us, due to some family matters they had to take care of. We will be continuing the rest of the tour without them. We were the only band on the bill tonight, but still had a blast and had a pretty good show, sound was great and it was a big, fun stage to play on. Decided to head out right after the show and drive the hour to Austin to stay at my friends Amber and Eric’s house. Got there at about 1:30 a.m. and hung out catching up and drinking beer till about 6 a.m.

Thursday, Aug. 20: Woke up pretty late and hung around the pool with some drinks. My buddy Moe Zilla, who recently moved from Germany to Austin, came over. I hadn’t seen him in a year. He used to stay at my apartment in Chicago for months at a time when he came to the U.S. We always have the wildest nights together. The Savage Pinks opened the show and set it off right. We had a really fun set. Unfortunately we had to leave right after to drive three hours into Houston to make it to the KPFT radio station for our interview at 1 p.m. We didn’t trust ourselves to get up at 7 a.m. and drive in the morning, so instead we drove to our buddy Eliseo’s place in Houston. He gave us the wrong directions, so we didn’t end up getting there till 6 a.m. Needless to say, it was rough morning, but we managed to pull off a pretty coherent interview and smash out a couple acoustic songs for those listening.

Friday, Aug. 21: We got back after the interview and all crashed out till 5 p.m. Got ready and headed to Fitzgerald’s for our show with Biters tonight. Lost Element and King Rahm opened the show, but there was a second show going on upstairs, so after an hour-long “intermission” we took the stage while the Fire Marshall showed up and refused to let anyone in or out. Biters headlined the show and crushed it as always with one of the most powerful sets I’ve seen in a long time. After the show a gang of us went back to the apartment complex we were staying at and snuck into the pool with a big bottle of tequila and finished the night off kicking back in the hot tub, sipping tequila.

Saturday, Aug. 22: I went skating and some of the guys went to a record store. Our buddy Eliseo’s girlfriend cooked us an awesome spaghetti dinner, and I know good spaghetti. My mom’s 100% Italian, so I was raised on that shit. We hit the shitty bar at Rice College for 95-cent beers, but it sucked so bad we got outta there after just a couple drinks. Something bad was gonna happen if we stayed. People were trying to take pictures of us with their phones ’cause we looked so out of place. If we kept drinking there we definitely would’ve gotten in a fight, so we decided to head to this Goth bar called Numbers. This bar was super-fun and full of the weirdest and most awesome people you can imagine. Seven-foot-tall dudes in glitter thongs with Mad Max gear head to toe, smoking-hot Goth girls, just people from all walks of life having a good time. We had a blast dancing all night. Even some girls from the show last night were there. Great final night in Houston.

Sunday, Aug. 23: Got into New Orleans, LA, pretty late after driving all day. King Louie met us there at Circle Bar and we hung out, walking around and drinking before the show. For those who don’t know, King Louie played keys and wrote songs for The Exploding Hearts, as well as plays in his other band, Missing Monuments, and a number of other side projects. We had a blast sharing tour stories all night till we played. Some people offered to put us up for the night, and we all went back and crashed at their house on the other side of town.
