About the band:
Looking back, it’s hard to believe that Take Me To The Pilot started out as nothing more than a kid alone in his basement.
“I didn’t really know what I wanted at the time. I had been between bands for a year and knew I wanted to play music in a group again, but I didn’t have any kind of plan’ TMTTP songwriter/lead vocalist Mike Bilenki muses.
With no band assembled at the time, it had been a while since he had last written music and he was not at all prepared for what came next…
A song. No, THE song.
The song in question, the song that excited Mike to the point where he made a MySpace page, recorded the song, and decided to reveal his new project to the world all in the same night is one which appears on Take Me To The Pilot’s sophomore EP What Makes You.
The song entitled ‘Carry You Back’ is more than just a simple love song it also serves as a metaphor for the group. Over time and the addition of bassist Adam Brown, guitarist Eric Grabowecky and drummer Jonathan James, both the song and the band have gone from one impulsive kid to a force greater than just the sum of its parts.
Take Me To The Pilot are, for lack of a better term, a rock n’ roll band that just happens to play pop music. Yes, they sing about girls. Yes, they write big hooks. But the way the Winnipeg foursome goes about executing their particular brand of pop fare is really rock n’ roll. Though the band’s ultimate goal is to reach as wide an audience as they can, the boys are ensuring that their career happens on their terms. This is especially true when it comes to their blistering live show, the goal of which is to hit it as hard as they possibly can only considering it a success when the crowd leaves covered in sweat wearing huge smiles.
In the past three years, Take Me To The Pilot have taken their special brand of party and both of their EP’s across the country multiple times, performing for more than 35,000 fans through their own headlining shows as well as on tours with The New Cities, Fefe Dobson, Alyssa Reid, Brighter Brightest, These Kids Wear Crowns, Neverest and Stereos.
TMTTP’s latest EP release “What Makes You” debuted at #3 on the iTunes Canada pop chart and #24 overall on iTunes Canada on its’ day of release in June, 2012. The video for “Tonight” also received spins on YTV, Metro 14, Much Music, Much Loud and Musique Plus. TMTTP have been featured on Degrassi: The Next Generation. The band have sold more than 7,000 iTunes downloads & almost 2,000 copies of their debut self-titled EP as well as 5,000 iTunes downloads and 1000 copies of their newest EP What Makes You. They’ve also had their video for “Call the Cops” viewed over 40,000 times on YouTube with past rotation on YTV & Montreal’s Metro 14.
Already in 2013, TMTTP have completed a tour of Ontario (including their 3rd showcase at Canadian Music Week.) A music video for their 4th single “Melody” will be filmed in mid-April with Toronto production company The Field for release at the end of the month. At that time, they’ll also be starting their first US tour with Phoenix based Epic Proportions Tour. This includes 20 dates at high schools, colleges and military schools from Dallas to New York with TMTTP playing as direct support for pop artist/former VH1 reality show actor Gabe Kubana.
While all of these accomplishments may seem like quite a lot for a band whose average age is 21, think again, because the boys are just getting started.

Keep up with the band on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and their website!
