SomeKindaWonderful – 3rd ROAD BLOG from New Politics’ “Everywhere I Go Tour”

The rock band, SomeKindaWonderful, is currently on tour supporting New Politics on their “Everywhere I Go Tour,” alongside Bad Suns, this fall. While they are on this tour, they will be doing an a blog for us. You can check out the first entry (with photos), written by Matt Gibson, after the break.

We started off this week with a great show in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was our first time playing there, so it was great to see that we actually had a decent fan base out there. Also, we picked up a new tour manager on this date. A mammoth of a human, with a big red beard who we appropriately nicknamed “Big Red” (or in the largely hispanic areas we refer to him as “Rojo Grande”). We left new Mexico and drove straight to Tucson, AZ. The show was great, which was a relief considering that was another market we hadn’t played yet, so we didn’t really know what to expect.

Next up was the Cali shows, which was a leg of the tour that we had all been anxiously waiting for. Our band has two hometowns: Los Angeles and Cleveland. We spent a lot of time touring California before, so it was so nice to play in these cities where we already have a pretty solid fan base. Plus, California knows how to party and so does SomeKindaWonderful.

The San Diego show at HOB reminded us why we love California crowds. The energy and passion they showed us helped fuel the momentum that would carry through the rest of our Cali shows. The next morning we woke up early to do an interview and acoustic performance on LA’s Heidi and Frank Show. The entire cast was dressed as deranged clowns, which probably helped make the interview extra hilarious and at times a bit inappropriate.

That night, we played a sold out Halloween show at the Anaheim House of Blues. We dressed up in masks, wigs, and butterfly wings. I was basically dressed as a butterfly version of Axel Rose, which was great except my lovely blonde wig was constantly in front of my face. At least I learned that I can play our set completely blind, haha. After the show we partied all night. There’s just something about wearing a wild costume that makes me wanna let my hair down and enjoy a few (dozen) adult beverages.

The next show was in Los Angeles, which as I said before, is one of our band’s hometowns. The crowd was so enthusiastic, screaming for every song we played; and the venue was beautiful. It was probably the best show we’ve ever played. Not to mention the fact that the lovely people from Chipotle stopped by to hook us up with burritos and a ton of gift cards to keep us eating good on the road (#agriCULTURE). Naturally, after the show we partied (very very hard) with the dude’s from Bad Suns.

We woke up the next day feeling a little rough and headed straight to San Francisco, which is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever been to. Being a hippy at heart, and a massive fan of 60’s rock, we visited legendary Haight-Ashbury area in San Fran. It was definitely a super far out place and people tried selling us psychedelic drugs as soon as we got out of the car. But don’t worry, we just said “no.” The show was at the Fillmore, which is where some of the most iconic live albums from artists like Santana, The Grateful Dead, and Eric Clapton, were recorded.

The next day, we literally spent like 6 hours at the DMV at some little hippy town in Northern California. I kid you not, this place was so “hippy” that the DMV smelled like weed the entire time we were in there, haha. I even found a river that was named after me, so I obviously had to get this lovely photo.

Even though we did nothing but hang at the DMV and drive to Oregon, it was a pretty exciting day because we released a new song “Rhinestone Melodies” as a free download, so be sure to check it out. Before leaving Cali, we passed this beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. We had to stop and get this picture, which barely captures the beauty of the sunset. Be sure to stop by next week to read up on the adventures to come!
