It was during one of our first big tours of the Netherlands – we were starting to really make our name there, and we’d sold out this 800-cap venue in Utrecht, central Holland.

The album we were touring at the time, called AM Waves, featured a black and white cover portrait photograph of myself and Shawn (the Young Gun and the Silver Fox) looking very moody.

Halfway through the gig, just after we’d finished a number and were charismatically chatting and introducing the next song, the audience began chuckling, which grew to a proper loud rippling laugh. Myself and Shawn were clueless, both checking ourselves for some horrendous wardrobe malfunction. We turned around and looked to the back of the stage seeking answers.

We suddenly found ourselves staring at a 70-foot backdrop projection of our drummer and our bassist (Ade Meehan and Dave “Diddy” Page) in a comedy parody recreation of our oh-so-serious black and white album cover, complete with wigs and pouting. The penny dropped, and myself and Shawn had a really good belly laugh about it on stage before returning to finish the set. Unbeknownst to us, they’d both been plotting with the sound/lighting team for weeks!
