It’s strange how the rituals kind of change on every tour we have been on.
And on each tour, especially the longer ones, rituals change or sometimes die out completely.
One thing that remains though is the mandatory hug with all the band members just before going on stage. It’s a quite common thing but we always mix it with saying foolish words without any meaning – starting as a little whisper and ending up in a big shout while we hug each other.
Another ritual is that we startup having a drink, not in the backstage but on the tour bus. It’s quiet there, we put on some good music and the band gets into the vibe while our crew is on the stage getting everything ready for us. Often our sound guy and light guy then drops by like 30 minutes before the show and joins us for a little drink, I like that moment quite a lot. It creates a feeling of togetherness. It has turned out that nearly every time we drink a glass of Red Bull and vodka mixed. We all hate the taste of Red Bull (haha) …but it somehow gives that little extra kick before going one stage – especially on the 38th show in a row it really helps!
Then we all put on a bit of makeup, we have always done that, not only Marie Fisker but the whole band … it’s quite fun and at one point it got a little crazy, we all looked like a 70’s glam rock band (haha).
We once also had a ritual where we would always listen to the same songs before going on stage, at one point it was Low’s ‘Especially Me’. When I hear that song I always get that special ‘before going on stage’ feeling.
