Let me start by being completely honest with you. I have truthfully haven’t been excited to go to a show in a long time. Why? Because I spend 4-6 nights a week at shows filming the lovely videos for this website, so when I found out that my friends in Patent Pending and Set It Off were coming through town, I knew I was in for a treat. Patent Pending’s new album “Second Family” is truly the best pop/punk album I have heard in a long time and I’ve heard amazing things about their live show, so I was stoked to get to see them. Set It Off is fresh off their signing with Equal Vision Records and is hitting the road hard to gain some traction and they definitely are doing a good job of it.

After a few locals played, it was time to hear the guys in Set It Off rock the stage. The crowd was a bit sparse, but that didn’t stop the guys in Set It Off from giving it their all and putting on a great show. They played a handful of songs of past releases and off their current release “Horrible Kids”. The crowd responded well to the music and I’m sure they were just as impressed as I was with their performance. The crowd got into the set by clapping, waving their hands and jumping to the beat of the songs. They ended their set with their current single “@reply”, which they have an awesome music video for. I felt bad for Cody during this song because his mic went out and the sound guy got the problem solved very fast, but it kind of took away from the impact of the song. It was the wrong song for this to happen during since it is their current single.

Before I get into talking about Patent Pending’s set, I want to say that I could never do this band justice in this review. If I wanted to write about all of the band’s antics, it would take me at least 5 pages and I would probably wind up confusion every reader of this. I’m just going to touch on some of the highlights and hopefully convince you that you NEED to see this band in concert before you die. Seriously. The majority of the songs the band played were off their current album “Second Family”, which I didn’t mind at all. They played some of my favorites, including: “Shake Weight & Moving Crates” where they actually brought a shake weight onto stage and used it during the song, “Douchebag” which is a hilarious song about the lovely douchebags that we all know and love, “One Less Heart To Break” which is about a friend of theirs that committed suicide a year and a half ago and “Dance Till’ We Die”. During some of their songs, they had some impressive choreography that you couldn’t help, but laugh at (it was very clever). The lead singer, Joe, had the crowd jog behind him while he went outside the venue and then proceeded back inside. Great job getting your fans in shape Joe.

You seriously need to check out both “Horrible Kids” and “Second Family”. Both of these bands deserve your attention not just because they have amazing music, but because they are great guys and really work hard at what they do.
