In this Preshow Rituals segment, the metal artist, Throes of Exile, reveals what he does before taking the stage. You can check out the story, after the break.
As a solo musician using backing tracks, all live parts are performed by me, so any mistakes can’t really be blamed on anyone else haha! I need my performance to be as tight as possible. I don’t really adhere to a ritual as such, but more a state of preparation.
I’ll aim to play guitar hours in advance at home or wherever I am before the show and then arrive at the venue in good time. Any opportunity I get before soundcheck etc, I’ll likely be secluded with one of my guitars playing licks and getting myself fully warmed up.
Usually, after check, I’ll have a beer but I won’t go overboard as this will most likely lead to sloppy playing. I try to avoid any hot food a day or so before the show so I have no bowel issues that could arise during the set (human pyrotechnics). That’s what helps me deliver as best I can!
