Shayna Leigh – 2nd ROAD BLOG from 2014 Winter Tour with Sister Hazel

The pop/singer-songwriter, Shayna Leigh, just finished up her tour supporting Sister Hazel on their winter tour. While she’s on this tour, she did an exclusive blog for our site. You can check out her second, and final, entry, after the break.

Week 2 of Sister Hazel Tour… DONE!

I think I have what’s called “the post-tour blues” (it’s a technical term…) It’s been a nutty couple weeks… but some of the best I’ve had!

The week began with our “seven hour” drive to Cleveland. It’s funny. You do the research and map out your itinerary… and determine the drive seven and a half hours. Somehow by the next morning when you are about to embark on your epic journey, you put the address into Google maps and what was seven hours yesterday is almost nine today. So that happened….

If your life is like mine, then you drive for a few hours and decide to stop for lunch. You go to a delightful little diner, eat very quickly (because as per usual you are insanely paranoid about time… also you’re having frightening flashbacks to last week when you ended up at the wrong venue…), and get back on the road. It only takes a minute for you to realize that a member of your band left his credit card at the restaurant. (OK… YOU left his credit card at the restaurant…) and you have to turn around and go get it… So that happened…

Then you finally arrive to the venue, the Music Box. It is a GORGEOUS new theatre. You’re right on time for sound check. You get to order delicious food off their regular menu. You have a moment to spare so you are able to give a quick interview before the show. Then you hear someone from the venue say, “Shayna, did you lose something?” She’s holding your wallet. Apparently someone found it in the parking lot… So that happened…

The next day you drive to Indianapolis. It’s only five hours. (Yes, you’ve gotten to the point where you can say things like “it’s only five hours”) When you get to the venue (the Vogue!), you see that your name is on the sign outside… Brightly lit for everyone to see. It’s among the most unexpectedly exhilarating moments of your life. You sound check and then give an interview in the green room. You hear strange noises every few minutes. You decide it’s haunted. Then you get on stage and ask everyone how they’re doing! “It’s MUSIC THURSDAY” you exclaim. Someone up in the front near the stage yells back “It’s WEDNESDAY”…. #idiot  So that happened…

The next day you drive to Chicago. With a full day off, you decide to get a taste of the city… which in our case really means you decide to explore the culinary options the city has to offer! You go to the Chicago Diner and have delicious vegetarian meal and drive around the city. The next day you get to give a radio interview and then head to the House of Blues for your final performance of the tour. You feel like you’ve stepped into a dream. Your family has flown all the way from Florida to see you perform. You are playing this giant, famous venue with this iconic band and the room is full. You trust the preparation of the past few weeks. You feel humbled and ready. You walk out on stage and you can’t help but think… “This is happening”
