OCTOURBER 2012 – 4th ROAD BLOG from Anchors

While The Stereo State, Anchors, After The Fall and Antillectual are on their fall tour together called OCTOURBER 2012, they will be writing a rotating Road Blog exclusively for us. Each band will write a band for each day of the tour. You can check out the 4th entry, written by Pat of Anchors, after the break.

This tour has been an absolute blast, we are up to show 9 of 11 of the east coast run and it feels like we’ve only played 2 or 3… We’re in Richmond, VA tonight and it’s still beautiful and warm outside.

It just dawned on us that we’ve all put on some serious weight here (apart from Chris who lost a few kilograms after some nasty man flu brought on by chugging a tumbler of Sambucca in Brooklyn) Although we’ve tried to eat reasonably healthily and regularly it quickly descended into the chaos of midnight hoagies and all day cinnabons…  I think the main problem is that we had a few spare days in NY before the tour started, and we all assaulted our livers/bowels for the entire time.

We’ve been astoundingly well looked after by After the Fall who welcomed us into their 15 seat tour van (which is now crammed with 9 sweaty balled musicians and 3 bands worth of gear) as well as all the kind strangers who’ve given us patches of carpet to sleep on.

So far the wildest show was the Friday night we did in Worcester, MA.  It was like a family reunion because we played with No Trigger who we’d previously played with in Australia, and our tour buddies Transit also turned up for a couple of beers and shots before their tour kicked off in Long Island.  Perkins, the Smart Bomb drummer who we also played with put us up in his families massive house in the woods and we got pretty festive in his basement after the show.

It’s been great to play to people who have never heard us before, but even better to eat a bunch of disgusting fast food I’ve never heard of before (being a disgusting fast food conniseur) and drink a whole bunch of great beers.  Also, we managed to introduce a few bartenders to the Anchors signature cocktail – The Jeeky Deeky – which involves a shot of Jagermeister being dropped into a tumbler of half Jack Daniels, half coke.  We haven’t made friends with many bartenders after downing a few (apart from Jake at Suzie’s in Albany, RJ at Brooklyn Fireproof, and the anonymous bartender at Ralph’s in Worcester, who are total fucking legends)

I really don’t want this east coast run to finish in a couple of days, I feel like we could do 30 more shows.  Luckily I know that Fest is gonna be a blast, and we’ve got three ripping shows with Heartsounds in Cali before we have to go home. Still, it will be hard to say goodbye to After The Fall, Antillectual and Mark McCabe, who have become tour dog buddies for life.

Anyway, I’ll try to keep you posted on a few more things before we head home, between drinking, eating and sleeping (in descending order of incident) we haven’t had very much time to take stock of what an awesome trip we’re having.

POWDER UP!

Pat
