In the midst of my hiatus from the stage, I love reminiscing on my younger, wilder self. There may not be a better drug in the world than a mic and a crowd for a young boy. I’ll never admit it, but the nerves are heavy on my chest every time for the week preceding.

To supplement this, I keep myself busy with extra time and intensity in the gym during the week leading up to showtime. The day of, I never eat more than two rice cakes and a banana (I simply cannot stomach more). Then, at the venue, I’ll enjoy two Miller Lites and a Jameson.

With a nice buzz and subsided nerves, I like to do curls with my guitar case in the green room to get the blood flowing and adrenaline pumping. I always text my parents when my set is starting and hand my phone off to my trusty friend Carson to stream on Instagram Live so they can watch.

Upon reflection, I’m finding myself even more excited to play more shows this year.
