I was so stoked about the announcement of the Safe is Just a Shadow re release tour when I heard about it back in November. I was lucky enough to be able to see and photograph Ice Nine Kills and Chasing Safety on January 4 on that tour. Safe Is Just a Shadow (the band’s second album) brought Ice Nine Kills a great deal of success when it was released before their first run on Warped Tour back in 2010. Cool tours like this don’t always come to Rochester, since the city is between Buffalo and Syracuse. The show was eagerly anticipated, and sold out.

Chasing Safety played an awesome 30 minute set at the Harmony House in Rochester- performing a few songs off their newest album entitled: “Nomad,” (released January 6) as well as such popular tracks as “Time Zones,” and “This is Hell.” I had never seen Chasing Safety before this show, and was really blown away by how responsive the crowd was. People jumped and mossed to the music, shaking the floor.

Ice Nine Kills took the stage around 10 that night, playing Safe is Just A Shadow in it’s entirety. Front to back. The crowd knew every single word, and shouted them back. This was definitely a nostalgic set for me, as I’m sure it was for many others. Ice Nine Kills always puts on such a cool set. It was great to see them mixing it up and performing an older album with that same energy.
