). Try and find places to stay that aren’t going to kick you out early in the morning. We all promise ourselves that we’ll be good, stay in and get an early night, but if a show goes well and you’re in a new city, you’ll normally end up out exploring. That’s not going to be fun if you get back at 3am and have to be out of the room at 10!
). Vocal warm ups. When you’re on tour, you’re so out of a routine that it can be easy to forget to do the most important things. Always make sure you remember the small schedule you can maintain, it’ll make a world of difference.
). Have a backup plan and a backup plan for your backup plan. When you’re on the road you’re not going to want to be making important decisions such as “Where am I going to stay tonight!?”. Spend time beforehand working out ways you can get around potential problems, you’ll regret it if you don’t!
). Don’t take people just because they’re good at what they do. Sure, we all want an incredible Tour Manager and the best Photographer we can afford, but what if you don’t get along with them? You’re heading out on the road to begin what should be one of those moments in your life that you hold onto forever. I toured with one of my best friends, who luckily for me also happened to take photos, and we had the best time.
). Put on a smile, no matter how hard it is. Ok, it’s day 16, you’re shattered and there are 20 fans outside 6 hours early to meet you. All you want to do is sleep. But remember just how dedicated these people are, and how you’re able to do this because of people like them. Drag yourself out there and meet them, the chances are, it will completely change your mood too! This goes with everything, especially the sound guy. Be nice to the sound guy, he can make you sound amazing or dreadful.
