Graffiti6 U.S. Tour – REVIEW

Graffiti6 came to Schubas Tavern in Chicago during their U.S. tour. You can check out our review after the break!

Arriving an hour or so before a show begins is good for a few reasons: (1) You get to scope of the crowd and observe them, (2) Graba good parking spot and (3) If it’s a bar, grab a couple drinks to get yourself prepared for some awesome music. I accomplished all three of these things before seeing Graffiti6 on Thursday, December 22nd at Schubas Tavern in Chicago.

During my observing and drinking period before the show began, I noticed that many Hispanic people were entering the venue, mainly not to see Graffiti6, but to see Ximena. She is a Pop sensation out of Mexico City, but unfortunately I didn’t schedule properly, so I had to leave before she began her set. The band I did get to watch was also the band I filmed their awesome Sprinter van (keep an eye out for the video in February/March) earlier that night and they are none other than Graffiti6. You may not know who they are yet, but that will surely change soon since they recently signed to Capitol Records and have had their first single “Free” hit radio in the U.S.

The band took the stage in front of the SOLD OUT crowd a little after 9pm on a cold Thursday night in Chicago. Their music and the atmosphere of the venue seemed to warm the room. This was the final date of their first U.S. tour and they intended to make it count. Two members of the band, well the only two members of the band on this tour, took the stage. One had an acoustic guitar in hand and the other with a bass guitar. This type of performance reflected their EP “Free” that they recently released stateside.

They started their set with their song “Lay Me Down”, which is on their EP. Right off the bat I was wowed by Jamie Scott’s soothing vocals and amazing range. Their overall sound brings artists like John Mayer and Coldplay to mind. Next, the band played “Goodbye Geoffrey Drake”, which Jamie described as a love song about a man named Geoffrey Drake. He was so in love with a women that when they were no longer together, he couldn’t imagine life without her, so he killed her and then he ended up killing himself as well. It was a different take on a love song, but still a love song nonetheless. The band’s third song was “Stare Into The Sun” where Jamie again impressed me with his vocals. The fourth song of their set came from their unreleased full length Colours called “This Man”. They then went on to play their current radio single “Free”, which myself and the crowd seemed to enjoy and they finished their set with a song titled “Over You”.

If you don’t know who these guys are, you NEED to give them a listen because if you’re a fan of John Mayer or Coldplay, you will definitely enjoy their music. Also, these guys will be making waves in the U.S. once again in January/February with Augustana.
