In this Crazy Tour Stories segment, the indie pop artist, ELBA, shares one of her stories from being on the road. You can check out the story below:
One of the most nerve-wracking concerts I've ever played was at the Danish festival Roskilde Festival in 2019. Roskilde Festival is the largest festival in Denmark, and as a musician, it's something truly special to perform on one of its stages. It was very early in my career - I had released one song and was still very new to the industry. My band and I had rehearsed like crazy before the show, and we were so excited to perform. We arrived at the festival site. We were scheduled to play at 11:00 PM, with soundcheck from 10:30 PM to 11:00 PM. At 10:00 PM, I went to the bathroom and pulled down my jumpsuit. That's when I heard a huge plop and looked into the toilet. There lay my beltpack for my in-ear monitors, flailing around, and I panicked completely because I was about to play what felt like one of the most important shows of my life. I ran out to my sound technician David, who grabbed the beltpack from my hand and found a hairdryer, starting to dry the beltpack. It was beyond repair, and other technicians at the stage started calling around to all the festival's sound technicians, and eventually they found a beltpack that I could rent from a technician, and we played the show and everything went well. I've been teased a lot about that story, and I've learned that I always need to take off my monitor before going to the bathroom.
