In this First Concert Ever segment, Adam Mah of the rock band, Derrival, talks about his first concert ever. You can check out the feature, after the break.
I went to my first concert when I was 13 years old. It was Virgin Mobile Festival in Vancouver (Canada) at Thunderbird stadium in 2007. I can still remember the line-up. We saw Mother Mother, Metric, Hot Hot Heat, Marianas Trench, and AFI. I remember Mother Mother coming on first and feeling that now familiar boom of kick drum through my chest. I was blown away by how amazing and strange they were as musicians. It was unlike anything 13-year-old Adam had heard before.
I went with my elementary school friend Taro (Shout out to Taro!) and his uncle. Taro and I formed our first band together with our friend Emily and had just one practice before calling it quits. We learned the famed Green Day song “When I Come Around”.
The Killers were the last band of the night and by far my favorite. It was during their Sam’s Town tour, a record I had listened to numerous times. Every song was dynamite and played with perfect precision. I vaguely remember Taro’s uncle texting “Hey Adam and Taro!” which then showed up on the screen beside Brandon Flowers. I was so excited.
The Killers are still one of my favorite bands to this day.
