deathsleep - TOUR TIPS

In this Tour Tips segment, the post-hardcore band, deathsleep, recommends advice for being a musician on the road. You can check out the tips below:

1. Prioritize Hygiene:
Showers are a necessity on the road for your health, your sanity, and your bandmates’ noses. But when a real shower isn’t an option, baby wipes can be a lifesaver. Always pack a stash. A baby wipe bath isn’t glamorous, but it’s a whole lot better than nothing.

2. Prioritize Sleep Wherever, Whenever, However:
Sleep is everything when you’re touring. The shows are intense, the travel’s endless, and your body never really gets a break. If you have the chance to crash in a hotel, take it. Those few hours of real rest can completely reset you. But more often than not, you’ll be catching sleep in a van or on a bus, so learning how to sleep sitting up is a must. Neck pillows, headphones, blackout shades—whatever helps you get even a little bit of solid rest, make it part of your gear.

3. Eat Like It Matters (Because It Does):
It’s way too easy to live on gas station snacks and fast food. But when you’re performing every night, your body feels everything you put into it. Eating clean on the road takes effort, but it pays off. Try to find healthier options—even a grocery store stop for fresh fruit, protein, or salads can keep your energy and immune system up. Your future self will thank you.

4. Stay Away from Bad Habits:
The road can be a breeding ground for burnout. Drinking too much, skipping meals, or not getting rest might feel fine in the moment, but it catches up fast—especially if you’re singing or playing hard night after night. Anything that compromises your immune system or mental clarity just isn’t worth it. Touring is a marathon, not a sprint.

5. Pack Smart & Stay Aware:
Extra shoes are non-negotiable. I always bring a few pairs, and let me just say, Toms are the absolute best tour shoes. They’re lightweight, breathable, super comfortable, and easy to throw on in tight spaces or backstage chaos. I’ve worn them everywhere, and they’ve never let me down. If you’re reading this, Toms—I want a sponsorship. Seriously.

Bonus Tip - Floss Like Your Social Life Depends on It:
You’re going to be interacting with tons of new people on the road—fans, venue staff, strangers-turned-friends. If you’ve got stank breath and something in your teeth, that’s gross. Flossing is a small habit that makes a big difference, and honestly, I’m addicted to it. Pack floss picks. Use them. Often.
