OG’s vs. New School
The OG’s have shaped who we are as a band, but the new wave of heavy bands are a direct result of the foundation the OGs laid. So, here are our dream tours: OG’s and New School!
Starting with The OG’s
Slipknot: Without them, I genuinely don’t think heavy music would be where it is today. They pushed boundaries so far that they made it impossible to ignore heavy music in mainstream culture. So many bands owe their existence to Slipknot’s influence; they opened the door for people like us to make a name screaming into a mic.
The Acacia Strain: They completely redefined what it means to be heavy. Whether you call them deathcore or hardcore, they’re just on another level. Few bands have been as consistent or impactful. Easily one of the greatest to ever do it.
Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza: They changed the way I think about music altogether. They made me realize just how far you can push a guitar and still make it hit. I’d give anything to see Rudyx3 live—those shows had to be insane.
Sworn In and Yüth Forever (collab set): They defined an entire era for the Chicago heavy music scene, which had such a massive influence on both David and me. David’s always been more of a Sworn In fan, while I’ve been obsessed with Yüth Forever (formerly known as “Villains”). That whole 2013-2018 Chicago scene was something special, and even today, I feel like so many bands are unknowingly influenced by what those bands did. It’s such a shame they’re not around anymore.
For the new school of heavy bands, though?
Peelingflesh: They’ve taken slam to a whole new level. If you haven’t seen them live yet, you’re missing out, for real. They put on the craziest shows. Every time they play, it’s packed, and for good reason. Shout out to D and the PF team.
Pincer+: Another amazing addition. Not enough Australian bands make it to the States, and it’s a real shame because Australia is killing it when it comes to heavy music right now. Pincer+ has one of the most innovative guitarists/producers in the game.
LIE: A hardcore band out of Texas, straight-up the truth. Their music is pure swag. They don’t just play hardcore—they run it, effortlessly, I might add.
Newcomer: A Dominican heavy hardcore/nu-metal band from NY, and honestly, one of the most exciting bands I’ve discovered. Every song feels like a journey—so many twists and turns, but it all comes together perfectly. Plus, the way they infuse their Dominican roots into their music is just incredible.
These bands are the future of heavy music, no doubt.
