Aryk Crowder – TOUR TIPS

This new set of Tour Tips was written by the R&B soul artist, Aryk Crowder. You can check out his tips for being on the road, after the break.

1. Make It A Point To Eat Healthy: Being an independent artist on the road often means compromised dietary choices. It’s easy to want to fuel up on junk food when you’re fueling up the car. Be sure to pack good snacks and choose healthy meals when possible as it will benefit you in the long run. This also goes for making sure you always have water available. (a solid multi vitamin won’t hurt either).

2. Don’t Rely Solely on Digital Devices: We rely on digital technology a lot! (myself included). Keep a real map and a physical list of important phone numbers with you at all times. You don’t want to learn this the hard way when your iphone decides to take a permanent vacation.

3. Bring Cash: This kind of goes along with #2. When credit cards fail or get declined, you’re gonna need a back up until you figure the situation out. Like the saying goes, “cash is king”.

4. Exercise: As someone who works hard to stay fit, it can be tough to do so when on the road. Make time to exercise 3-5 times a week as all that sitting while you travel is more devastating to your health than you know. Gravity is free (i.e. squats, pushups, and running) while jump ropes and resistance bands are pretty inexpensive and can be used nearly anywhere.

5. Make Friends with Everyone You Can: As an independent artist, you need as many allies as you can get. And believe it or not, whether they’re a fan or not, most people want to you to succeed. I’ve been fortunate to make some great friends while on tours and whether their letting you crash on a couch or simply buying you a drink, you need help on the road. So be a nice guy (or girl) and kill em’ with kindness. Dish out those Please’s and Thank You’s.
