I was probably 12 and attended my friend's church's youth group trip to this Christian rock festival called SoulFest up in New Hampshire. It was my first concert and festival and I wasn't even a member of this church, haha. I remember it being a truly formative experience for me even though I wasn't particularly spiritual at the time. We saw acts like Family Force 5 and Fireflight and I was blown away by the whole experience of live music.

The next summer, my best friend and I begged our parents to take us to Warped Tour. Eventually one of our dads caved and took us to Boston where we got to see the very same bands we listened to on our iPods day in and day out. I remember seeing 3OH!3, Paramore, Sum 41, Attack Attack!, We The Kings, All Time Low, and Gym Class Heroes... It was nuts.

Being a teen at these festivals during this era was pretty crazy. 2010/2011 was such a cool time in pop culture and on the burgeoning internet. Although we had cellphones and camcorders (and we were enamored by them) people were still living in the moment during events like these. It was honestly like being on Myspace, but IRL.

Also seeing my dad in the Devil Wears Prada pit was truly unforgettable.

This era really left a mark on me. I have always been so impressed by the high-soaring vocals these pop punk singers delivered. Although I write pop music, I feel it's informed in some way by the catchy, moody hooks of the pop-punk bands of the late '90s and early '00s... and I hope that shines through in “No Good at Falling in Love.”
