The Midnight - CRAZY TOUR STORIES
Join us as The Midnight tells you a crazy show story.
In this Crazy Tour Stories segment, Tim McEwan, from the synthwave band, The Midnight, shares one of his crazy show stories. You can check out the story below:
The very first time we ever played a show was in July of 2017 at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco. It was a co-headline show with another band called FM-84. I slept on Colin from FM-84's couch and we barely had a clue what we were doing, let alone what to expect from the crowd. We didn't even have in-ear monitors. It was just me pressing play on my laptop, playing along on a synth. Tyler was singing and I don’t even think his guitar was plugged in. We had hired a really talented sax player, Jesse Molloy, and thank god we did because the crowd went NUTS whenever he ripped a solo. Jesse would later go on multiple tours with us. But for that first show, we didn’t have a clue what we were doing or what to expect.
It ended up being a sold out show and the venue was packed to max capacity with over 800 people and the room was cooking. I just remember coming out of soundcheck earlier that afternoon and getting a slice of pizza next door. I looked at the long line of people waiting to get into the venue and my first thought was “Wow, I wonder who's in town playing a show?” Then I saw people wearing The Midnight T-shirts and that’s when it dawned on me that they were here to see us. That was very surreal.
The rest of the night was a blur, but the energy of the crowd carried us through and it was the beginning of this amazing journey. Something I'll never forget.
