In this First Concert Ever segment, the pop artist, SABZ, talks about the story of her first experience with live music. You can check out the story below:

My first concert was Lady Gaga’s monster ball back in 2010. I was around 13 years old and I went with my cousin and my sister.

It was held at what was formally known as the Staples center now the crypto arena in downtown LA. I had never been to a proper concert before, so this was my first time in an arena, and I was absolutely blown away by how much she put into the show.

The shows concept was what Gaga described as “ a pop, electro opera“ . The storyline was sort of Wizard of Oz esque. So her and her dancers invited you to follow, her evolution into fame through all these different landscapes in the show. Some being nods to different parts of New York (where she was brought up) such as the subways, or an exaggerated version of of a neon Manhattan.

I remember seeing Justin Trantor, who is a really notable singer songwriter open for her. He was in a band, called Semi Precious Weapons at the time. And I was already going through a bit of an 80s hair metal phase  and their musical style had a lot of influence from that, so it really caught my attention.  After seeing the show, I remember looking him up and seeing that he went to Berklee and I decided then and there that that was the school I wanted to attend and lo and behold all these years later I’m an alumni too.

So you could say this show was definitely one of the things that helped shape the direction in which I wanted to take my artistry.
