On Nick 13’s Headline tour, it brought them to Fitzgerald’s in Berwyn, IL. With him came supporting act, Brett Detar. You can check out our review after the break!
As the show started, the crowd was a bit smaller than expected, but at least the drinks were flowing. I really hope everyone in attendance knew that they were in for a great night of music because I know I did. Brett Detar, the show’s opener, took the stage and started to play his somewhat depressing songs. I thought it was kind of funny that he made a comment during his set that he should hand out Prozac at his merch table. For many reasons, including his powerful voice, I really enjoyed his set and he turned me into a fan after about his second song. Also, he is giving away his entire album for free via email!
It’s hard for me to describe how excited I was to see Nick 13. Not only is he the vocalist and songwriter of Tiger Army, but he has made some amazing solo songs as well. The audience didn’t know it yet, but they were in for a treat because they were going to hear both Nick 13 songs and Tiger Army songs. When he first walked out onto the stage, he was wearing a black and red pinstriped suit, looking very rockabilly, matching the rest of his backing band! He started his set with the song “Nashville Winter”, which I really enjoyed. One of the Tiger Army songs he played was “Cupid’s Victim”, which is one of my personal favorites. He put on one hell of a show, so you should go check out his music!
