Everyone’s first tour has a few hiccups and learning curves along the way. Ours was filled with a few really ridiculous ones.
After our first couple of shows, we had a few days of being parked in LA, and the friend that we were staying with swore that we were safe parking in the Walgreens down the street overnight. (There was no parking anywhere to be found, and he said that his roommate did it every night!) As you guessed, the next morning before running to a rehearsal, we woke up to find our precious vehicle had been towed.
We had a rehearsal and then quickly needed to drive to San Diego, so once the rehearsal was over we ran to get the car from the tow place, then started our drive to the great San Diego, not before taking a quick selfie with the car in front of the tow place to post on Instagram.
Once to our gig in San Diego, Margaret (one of the singers in my band) realized her only nice pair of performing shoes were nowhere to be found! She wore some sandals for the night, but this was a problem because the next morning we had to wake up at 8am because we were going to be on the Conan O Brian show backing up our friends El Vy! We searched and searched, but gave up, not sure what do to. As we were driving back from San Diego that night, I was scrolling through my Instagram and found Margaret’s shoes! In the background of the photo we had taken off to the tow place, there were Margaret’s shoes sitting on the curb….. We laughed, and laughed, and even drove by the tow place later that night, but they were still nowhere to be found. Thankfully, we had an angel of a driver at Conan who helped her go the nearest outlet on our lunch break to find the perfect pair of boots to carry her through the day!
The one last car failure on that trip, was after our final LA show a few days later, where we somehow lost the keys to the car, couldn’t find them anywhere, and then missed our last gig of the tour! Phew. Our biggest tour lesson from this trip… Bring double of everything, ha!
