The Habits

In this Crazy Tour Stories segment, the alternative pop band, The Habits, shares one of their stories from being on the road. You can check out the story, after the break.

Several years ago we were doing a small west coast run and we had a stop in Bakersfield. We played a legendary venue called Jerry’s Pizza. So many of our favorite scene bands had played there before and we were just so excited to be in the same place some of our heroes had been. Since we are from LA, my parents decided they were going to come to watch us play. They’re amazingly supportive and virtually never miss a show. My 11-year-old cousin happened to be visiting from out of state, so it was also a fun little adventure for the family.
The show went great. And by that I mean, we had the best time playing. The audience was light, but it didn’t matter. We always gave it our all. After the show, we ate some pizza and plotted what we were going to do next. My mom mentioned that there was a tattoo shop around the corner. I didn’t have any tattoos at the time and I was confused as to why she brought it up. She then said she’d buy me my first tattoo if I wanted. I was shocked and obviously jumped at the opportunity.
Next thing I know, I’m sitting in the chair getting the words “crazies never die” inked on my forearm while my mom is filming my painful facial expressions and my dad is getting a black sun tattooed on his arm and my little cousin is playing Minecraft on his computer in the waiting area. The words I got are a paraphrased quote from Hunter S. Thompson that says, “Some never live, but the crazy ones never die.” For me, it’s about people who dream big and pursue something crazy in life. I wasn’t going to get that long sentence on my arm, so I shortened it. The whole night was just kind of surreal. To be able to play in that venue with my best friend, then later have a family bonding night in a tattoo shop. What a time.

Keep up with the band on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
