The first concert I went to was Immortal Technique. I was 13 years old and it was two hours from where I lived, so my mom took me. Lol. I was in my 13-year-old communist phase so his message was everything to me. His lyrics combined with the English class I was in at the time being super poetry heavy, conscious rap was everything. I grew up on a bunch of other things but I don’t think music had reached me like that before. That was when I started to write songs. Lyrics became the most important element to me. A few months before the concert, I had sent Tech’s label, Viper Records, my music and they saw something in me. Shout out to Jonathan Stuart, wouldn’t be here without him and his encouragement! Anyway- I mailed them a CD… this was way before the Soundcloud days. They got the CD and invited me to the show. It was in a dark venue out on Long Island that could probably hold a few hundred people. It was called the Crazy Donkey. I was definitely the youngest person there, momma bird not far away, living out my conscious rap dreams. I really don’t remember much from the performance other than for a moment I swear we locked eyes as he threw a CD out into the crowd as if it was going to chop off someone’s head. My mom and I hung around after the show and I got to meet him and talk a little after he settled up in the back. I joked about going on tour with him and he played nice. His friend, J Arch, RIP, told my mom I would be a star one day. and I haven’t given up since.

Keep up with him on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
