I try to be in a show-ready mindset throughout any show day, whether it’s for press, IG Live, or an actual concert. That means I’m usually up early to take a walk, drink some coffee, shower, and get some work done in the morning. I love making music on show days because it’s added inspiration for the performance, so I’ll usually spend the afternoon writing/producing some stuff.
When we’re all settled into the venue after soundcheck, the first part of the pre-show experience is relaxing and enjoying your time with whoever you’re traveling with (band, manager, etc). Not only do I feel that it’s important to be connected to your tour family, but it’s also important to celebrate the fact that we get to do this for a living.
Pre-show I’m doing a lot of vocal warm-ups accompanied by an acoustic or electric guitar and drinking some room temp water. I’ll also usually drink some coffee because sometimes I get so excited to play that my body wears itself out and gets tired.
Right before I walk on stage I try to be as relaxed as possible so when the first song starts I’m in control and connected to the people in that room.
