So I’m a fairly new artist and because of the dreaded ‘C’ word I haven’t had much opportunity to tour, but at the end of 2019, I had a crazy experience being on a tour in Germany.
Rewind to July 2019 – I was at a studio in Thailand called “Karma Sound Studios” and I was here to record material for my artist project. For a bit of context – I’m from a small town in the UK called Stoke On Trent, but I was in Thailand, as this was where a lot of my team at the time were based. I was there for a month, and for the final couple of days a songwriting camp also arrived at the studio complex, so I got to join in and write for other artists too which was so exciting.
Songwriting camps are great because there are so many artists from contrasting genres and writers from different countries and everyone just gets to know each other and make music! One of the artists I met there was called The Dark Tenor who was from Berlin, Germany. He infuses rock with classical music – which is super cool (so I’d highly recommend checking him out). He has a very cool project and a great fan base in Germany and he tours quite regularly to packed out shows!
It was then sadly my time to leave Thailand, and a few days later the rest of the camp who were still out in Thailand had a listening party, and the last song that I wrote there was included and played for everyone. The Dark Tenor then messaged me and said how much he liked it and we started to chat on socials, sharing our music, etc. He then told me about his tour that he was doing around Germany in November 2019 and I immediately wanted to book tickets to go see a show in Berlin, as I’d never been there before and with it getting closer to Christmas I also wanted to see what Germany is like! He then said that if I’m coming to see a show that he could bring me on stage as a guest artist and we could do a duet together! To say that I was excited would definitely be an understatement!
So on the 15th & 16th November 2019 I performed in Germany at The Dark Tenor’s show and we sang a duet of “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak on both nights. I was so nervous but everyone on The Dark Tenor’s team was extremely supportive! His fans were also so welcoming which was lovely! The performances went really well and The Dark Tenor then asked me if I wanted to be on the rest of the tour with him for the final three shows.
Of course, I couldn’t decline, I was ecstatic to stay on the tour! So a few days later I joined The Dark Tenor for the final shows of the tour and I got to experience what tour life is like on a Nightliner – which was so much fun! I didn’t expect the tour bus to be as big as it was! The final three shows were incredible and I also got to perform one of my original songs, as well as the duet which was really cool.
I was then meant to be The Dark Tenor’s support act for his April tour 2020, but of course, sadly it couldn’t happen. Hopefully one day!
I can’t thank The Dark Tenor enough for this opportunity! It was an experience I will remember for a lifetime!
