In this Tour Pranks segment, the indie pop artist, Coleman Hell, chats about pranks that have happened on tour. You can check out the story, after the break.
This is not exactly a prank but ever since my first real tour I’ve had a special stipulation on all of my riders. I request a picture of Elaine Benes from Seinfeld, either printed or hand-drawn, or I refuse to go on stage. It started out as a joke because I wanted something like the Van Halen brown m&m’s story.
This has resulted in a lot of really interesting interpretations. Sometimes the entire staff of the venue draws us their versions of Elaine. One time they even framed all of them and decorated the room like an art exhibit. People have used photoshop to superimpose my face on her body or even had giant posters or banners made at a print shop.
I keep every single one and bring them home with me when the tour is done. I have accumulated quite the collection over the years and maybe one day I will have my own exhibit.
