The first concert I ever attended was Beyoncé for her “I AM…SASHA FIERCE” album. I was around 13 and got invited by a few girlfriends that I wasn’t even that close with. The four of us and our parents got to the stadium a little early and tailgated in the parking lot. I wore jeans and a cool, new white shirt I’d just bought at the mall and even put on makeup for the occasion.
Even though our seats were in the nosebleeds, I remember being absolutely blown away by Beyonce’s stage presence and how she could command such a huge space. Her speeches between songs, her dance numbers, her video backdrops… and not to mention, her singing was flawless. She didn’t miss a single note. To this day, that concert inspires my live shows.
It’s not very common for independent pop artists to include backup dancers on stage, but I think it adds another element of showmanship to my performances. For me, performing is so much more than just singing into a microphone. I love to entertain with dancing, lights, and monologues too. I think Beyoncé’s concert has a lot to do with that mindset.

Keep up with her on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
