Backstreet Boys’ “In A World Like This Tour” – REVIEW

For the first time in nearly 10 years, all five members of Backstreet Boys hit the road again for the “In A World Like This Tour” and we were there for the first date in Chicago! You can check out our review of the tour, which also featured Jesse McCartney and DJ Pauly D, after the break.

“Have you ever seen a grown Backstreet Boy beg?” was just one of the sayings being heard from the stage when the Backstreet Boys, kicked off their In A World Like This tour in Chicago. They were abruptly stopped during their show due to curfew. Even though the boys pleaded for ‘just one more song’, the venue did not give it to them. I will give it to them for staying as long as they did after and really trying to be able to give the crowd more. Sitting down on the stage in protest, trying to still sing acapella until they cut the mics off, and it was a first that I have heard the artist ask for one more song as opposed to the audience which were loud in their chants against the venue shutting them down. Unfortunately that was how the night ended but it did not change the fact that they did give a great performance beforehand. Starting off memory lane with “The Call” they came on stage in their matching white suits and after a few songs went and changed costume. While off stage a pre-recorded video played of them talking and answering questions in an interview. Coming back on stage they were dressed in more casual wear as they continued the set with songs from their newly released album, In A World Like This.  During the performance, they also brought out people who had bought a VIP ticket to sit with them on stage and played a few acoustic songs which end member playing an instrument. They joked that this was the future when they could no longer do their dance moves. Afterwards changing one more time into more street clothes, they continued with the show singing more classics and expressing how much they appreciated everyone coming out and the continued love and support from their fans. The Backstreet Boys are definitely back and better than ever.  It was just a shame they were not able to finish the show.

Opening for BSB, was Jesse McCartney and DJ Pauly D. Jesse McCartney’s performance was better than I expected. Having a ‘crush’ on the heartthrob as a kid, as well as every other person in the late 90’s/early 2000’s, it was nice to see him all grown up from his Dreamstreet days. Having synchronized dancers on stage with him as well as drums and a guitar player was definitely a surprise. Playing all the hits such as “Leavin’”, “It’s Over”, “Beautiful Soul”, “How Do You Sleep?”,  and new songs that he has been working on, he had the crowd singing along throughout. I can only say that I hope he goes on tour again because I will without a doubt be sure to be going back to see him again.

Taking the stage first to get everyone ready for the acts to come was DJ Pauly D. Playing remixes of old and new songs, the crowd was jumping and fist pumping along with him. I only wish he played when it was a bit darker so the light show would have been more of a show. I’m not going to lie, I think it is a bit strange that he was on this tour, but he does put on a good show.

If you are looking for a night of fun, dancing, sing-alongs, and all around good entertainment, then this is the concert to be at. With for as long as The Backstreet Boys have been around, they are veterans on touring and performances. You cannot deny a good time at one of their shows. Go buy a ticket for the boys who throughout all these years have stuck together and been musically true to who they are.
