I have noticed over the years that the main artists I look up to are also songwriters. Julia Michaels, Andy Grammar, OneRepublic (Ryan Tedder), and as of late Maggie Rogers, Sigrid, and JP Saxe. I would absolutely love to go on tour with Julia Michaels who just has a way of piecing messy words together into something so beautiful and her audience can feel it. I have always loved the way Andy Grammar cuts right through honesty and goes straight to the grit in a lot of his songs. With transparency being a priority of mine, I feel like there would be such an honest and pure energy in every venue with any of these artists.
This is quite a timely topic to talk about because I used to be so afraid to admit I have a dream as big as going on a world tour. I hadn’t thought something like that could ever happen, but when I remind myself that I’m not doing this for me, but for my fans, it becomes less intimidating. At the end of the day, if it was only me who cared about what I create, that would be okay, but I have more than just me who care and that will continue to make every ounce of this journey worth it.
I love performing and connecting with people. Julia Michaels being someone who used to have stage fright, she has no choice but to be real with her audience and I admire that. I think that is why I love songwriting and co-writing so much. It is a conversation, to get vulnerable with people you may not even know is nerve-racking but also thrilling. And then to get to perform them live while looking right at the reason I do any of this is such a trip to imagine. I would love to be on tour with a group of artists like this because if there were only one thing their fans (including me) loved about them, it would be their honesty. More than that, they are all oh-so-talented vocalists and very fun to watch perform.
I also love hearing about songs written on tour, and to be able to do that with one of the biggest songwriters in the industry like Julia would be unreal. I would also just like to be her friend! After my season on The Voice, where I made it to the Top 24 on Team Kelly Clarkson, I started to answer the questions around who I want to be as an artist. Every song I release is handled with such an intention because of the way I have felt listening to these kinds of artists for so long. I want my audience to feel just as trusted as I’ve felt with them. As rough as it may sound, I believe there is a little piece in all of us that needs finding. I want to put on the kind of show that brings people even just a little bit closer to whatever they’re missing. I can’t wait for all the nights in the future ahead where I will get to spend time in conversation with my fans from the stage.
