Before I ventured out on my own and became COASTL WOLF I played bass in the band permanent me. We toured the country for a few years so there is definitely no shortage of crazy stories on the road but there’s one in particular that comes to mind.

I could sum it all up and just say “Detroit” and let your imaginations wander but it’s too good not to share. So this is dating back to winter 2007 at the good old Shelter. A well known slightly terrifying venue in Detroit. My band and I were loading in our gear. I was the last out of the van to take my stuff (very unfortunately). My whole band was inside as I was carrying my bass out of the trailer and I get called at from a guy in the sidewalk.

Now mind you I was pretty young and naive and really talkative so I saw nothing wrong when this guy asked me if I wanted his demo rap cd…insert palm to face emoji here. So yeah, I took the cd and instantly the guy asked me for 5 bucks for it and I tell him sorry no thanks and go to give it to him back when he yells “yo (profanity) you touched the cd it’s yours now, 5 bucks” so I go to give it to him back and he flips out and literally goes to grab my pockets for a wallet and I start to run. That leads into a chase back to my van where I lock the door as he’s pounding on it to let him in.

The universe was looking out for me because there was a cop on the corner and the man was instantly detained. What sucks for him is I got the cd for free. What was even better was it was a burned 2pac cd. I think minus the near death encounter I came out on top there.

Oh Detroit how I miss you so.
