Avry - PRESHOW RITUALS

In this Preshow Rituals segment, the indie pop artist, Avry, reveals what he does before taking the stage. You can check out the rituals below:

Before any show I play I have three main things I try and do. The first thing is I always try to take a 10-15 minute walk by myself before I head on stage, this really helps to calm my nerves and get my headspace right before going on stage. I find that when I don't do this, I always am pretty nervous through at least the first couple of songs.

When it comes to food/drink, I can never eat too close to showtime or else I find my energy levels get pretty low. I always have to keep reminding myself to drink an absurd amount of water on show days to make sure my mouth isn't dry and I can sing properly. I remember, in my first few shows I had almost no water and it was not ideal for singing, for some reason going on stage really gets me dehydrated!

The last thing I will do before I play a show is run through the first line of every verse of each song just to make sure I can cue myself. In my first show I ever played, I switched the verses by accident of one of my bigger songs and I got some weird looks. It also throws off the band and me for obvious reasons. Going over even just the first word of each verse is enough to jog my memory and make sure I don't jumble anything up.
