The Spring Fever Tour feat. Pierce The Veil and All Time Low – REVIEW

We were in attendance at the Chicago date of the Spring Fever Tour featuring co-headliners, Pierce The Veil and All Time Low, as well as Mayday Parade and You Me At Six. You can check out our review of the tour, after the break.

With the accents of You Me at Six, the ballads of Mayday Parade, the theatrics of Pierce the Veil, and the countless dick jokes from All Time Low, how could you pass up the chance to see all these great acts in one place. Unfortunately for Chicago, the venue was changed from the Congress Theater to the Sears Center Arena. The reason being because the Congress sold out in under four hours, changing the venue allowed for more people to go and also the Congress has been undergoing a few legal problems. This change however caused much upset for fans who were not already lined up outside the venue the morning of the show. With only a limited number of wristbands for the floor available, the rest of the fans had to find a seat for the show.

Taking the stage first was UK rockers, You Me At Six. For being the opener they surprisingly packed a lot of songs into their set, such as: “Bite My Tongue”, “Loverboy”, “One Love”, and “Stay With Me”, to name a few. When they played their last song, “Underdog”, they got the crowd to shout out ‘underdog’. I honestly was not expecting the performance they gave. They were so energetic and would banter with the crowd. For anyone who wants to do so, you can catch them on tour again this fall.

Up next was Mayday Parade. They did a good job of mixing their set with both older and newer tunes. A few of the crowd favorites included: “Jaime All Over”, “Oh Well, Oh Well”, “Black Cat”, “When I get home you’re so Dead”, and “Jersey”. They also played their cover of Gotye’s “Somebody that I used to Know”, which features Vic Fuentes, of Pierce the Veil, who actually came out on stage to sing his part. Personally, I was really glad Mayday was on this tour. I’ve liked them for awhile now and seeing them perform was really fun. The crowd was definitely just as excited as I was, showing it by jumping and crowd surfing throughout their set.

For as many times as I’ve seen Pierce the Veil, I’m glad to say it’s never the same. Each time is more exciting than the last. Setting up the stage with huge props and cutouts of gears that spun, they give more than just show. With the crowd singing along, Vic almost didn’t even have to sing. Making sure to give the crowd songs to crowd surf and rock out to, they played: “Hell Above”, “Besiitos”, “King for a Day”, “Disasterology”, Caraphernelia”, “A March into Water” and an acoustic version of “I’m low on gas and you need Jacket”, as well as others. They also played “Hold on til May”, which they dedicated to their older brother, Frank.

When All Time Low came on stage they really made an entrance. Coming out on stage first was an announcer who welcomed everyone as if it was boxing match. One by one, he introduced the members giving them special names. When each came out, they had their own theme music and a boxing robe on as they ran to their place on stage. It was hands down the best introduction of the night. After that, they wasted no time jumping into their set starting with “Lost in Stereo”, and continuing with songs such as: “Somewhere in Neverland”, “Stella”, “Backseat Serenade”, “Time Bomb”, “Weightless”, “Coffee Shop Soundtrack”, “Therapy”, “The Reckless and the Brave”, and “Dear Maria, Count Me In”, just to name a few. In between songs, Alex and Jack would banter with the crowd as always and as expected from an All Time Low show, talked of having sex with Chicago. Alex also gave a small speech about how he appreciates when people record them. He understands how people want something to take home with them to look back on, but how there’s something very valuable in just enjoying the show so for the next song he asked that everyone put their phones away and the crowd obeyed. Also, at one point during their bantering, Mike Fuentes, the drummer from Pierce the Veil, came on stage and handed Ryan, All Time Low’s drummer, flowers. The band was surprised and said it was not planned. As they continued their set, countless bras were thrown on stage as expected at an ATL show. Once they played their final song, they left the stage and I was kind of disappointed in the crowd. Normally, after the headliner has played, the crowd will chant something such as: encore or one more song. Sadly, this crowd did not.

The Spring Fever Tour was a tour you couldn’t afford to miss. It was a great night full of amazing music. Also, if you went to a date of the tour, you probably caught the band, The New Classic, performing outside the venue. They are following the tour to promote their music, so go check them out.
