Sun Arcana – PRESHOW RITUALS

In this Preshow Rituals segment, the alternative rock band, Sun Arcana, share what they do before every show. You can check out their rituals, after the break.

As a whole, we don’t seem to have many crazy ‘rock star’ rituals really. However, other than a band fist bump, we just chill out before and maybe grab a meal or what not. Getting in the right headspace is the best thing for us, as we always want to concentrate fully on our live performance. That’s where the actions at!
Nevertheless, we each have our own separate rituals.
Harry – If I can, I just like to have some alone time to help calm the nerves. I find that I get quite anxious before shows so I like to relax and chill out. However, when it gets to about 15 minutes before the show I like to get a bit more pumped. If we have access to a stereo we put our ‘Get Psyched mix’ on, have a little sing song and all that. I’ll have a run-up and down backstage just before we go on just because I hate waiting and standing still but for me, that’s about it really!
Tom – The first thing I do before a show is a vocal warm up. I have to be pretty boring really and drink a lot of water as I try to go to town when I’m singing so, unfortunately, if I want to sustain that through a show it means I have to prepare quite thoroughly. Whilst Ryan is usually being annoying and hitting stuff, Harry is having some alone time and Jules is doing his hair I like to drink a nice cup of coffee to get that caffeine boost.
Ryan – I usually like to get start getting warmed up about an hour before the show. I go through my drum rudiments and other various exercises just to get the blood flowing before we hit the stage. I seem to have this strange need to listen to loud and heavy music when I’m getting warmed up so I tend to put on anything that screams at me through my laptop speakers. Just as we’re about to go on stage I get super fidgety so I’m usually jumping around backstage.
Jules – So, Bit of a ritual I have is a quick vocal warm up, making sure I have chewing gum before and a fresh one for when I’m going on stage!! Doing my hair is always a big thing; I’m not vein I swear! Listening to our favorite songs as loud as we can afford with the boys, keeping up the fun and laughter and taking that energy out on the stage with me. I like to keep things simple and not worry too much really!

Keep up with the band on Facebook and Twitter!
