Que Sera & Aminals – 2nd ROAD BLOG from their Summer 2015 U.S. Tour

The New England-based bands, Que Sera (pictured left) and Aminals, are currently on their summer 2015 U.S. tour together. While they’re on this tour, they will be doing a blog for us. You can check out the first entry, written by Aminals, after the break.

“The Longest Journey”
Saturday, July 18th-20th

We knew we were in for some fierce southern heat, being a band of scrawny northern folk, hardened by long winters that could still never be quite cold enough to deter us from a daily iced coffee; but nothing could have prepared us for the molten days ahead in a 15-passenger Chevy with no air conditioning.

Several weeks before the journey began, with the impending trek across half the nation rapidly approaching, the band was grappling with the unforeseen plight of acquiring a van… it is known by many that neither planning nor punctuality have never been known Aminals’ strongpoints. With a sudden stroke of much-needed fortune, Brandon Davis – a colleague of ours, became aware of the conundrum, and in lieu of some perfect timing between our tour and his, graciously offered us to utilize his van. The one stipulation being that he could hitch a ride to Florida with us… thus, effectively, killing several birds but with one well-placed stone.

Davis, being tremendously more thick-skinned to the road than us after nearly a decade of nomadic musician lifestyle, was perplexed by our comparatively deep concern for air conditioning. Surely, he believed, we were a bunch of gigantic sissies. Nevertheless, he didn’t object to our insistence that we spend our hard-earned yet limited financial resources on attempting to rejuvenate the AC. After a shot at a DIY coolant injection and experimentally swapping the horn and AC relays had ultimately proved fruitless, the situation ahead of us began to appear dire… and hot. Regardless, the poor luck was outweighed by the good, and we collectively resolved to push onward, embracing the looming test of our endurance that was to come in the days ahead.
We gathered our belongings with a pledge to travel light, and then gathered each other. Wishing a final farewell to our loved ones, Ilya, to his gold-locked love interest Brandi. Ian, to his beloved Boston terrier Crickett. Their goodbyes were heartfelt and tear filled. Rick, meanwhile, was content to simply throw deuces and post that bad boy up in his Insta. @rightofftherip.
The next 24 hours were spent in the van… save for only very sporadic breaks at highway rest stops.

Strange as it may seem to drive directly from Providence Rhode Island to Miami, we had actually requested it this way. Too many old fart working guys in this band… and as such, we were forced to trim off the first batch of shows that had originally been planned in order to condense the entire tour to a meager two weeks… lest we all lose our homes. It is common knowledge these days that a touring metal band can’t help but vaporize money, certainly a whole lot faster than it makes any. But alas, we have our day jobs for money… and the band for the lol’z. C’est la vie. (That’s French for “broke-as-shit.”)

After a trek down i95 that blurred into one gigantic day of silence, boredom, intermittent naps, and rotating driver shifts, we had reached Orlando, and said our farewells to Brandon. The rest of the preceding 24-hour haul to Florida had been virtually completely void of noteworthy events.
