“We’ve been traveling together since 2008, it’s been a while, plenty of good times not a lot of sleep and some legendary experiences. Here’s our top five trips for surviving the tour…

1. Airline Loyalty: Find an airline you like, and stick with them, the more you fly with them the quicker you’ll climb their frequent flyer program, soon gaining access to their nice quiet lounges and the odd cheeky upgrade.
Although most people think we spend most of our time getting burnt on the beach, playing amazing gigs and eating in ridiculous restaurants, the reality is the majority of time is spent trying to sleep on planes, delayed in an airport or generally traveling. So access to nice quiet airline lounges with relatively healthy food is a real bonus.

2. Get Stuck In: Without doubt one of the best parts of our job, is traveling to places we’d never ever go to normally & experiencing new cultures and food. Make the most of it see as much you can and try as much as possible, you may never get the opportunity again. Even if you don’t like it, you’ll appreciate what you have at home even more, so win win.

3. Sleep: Pretty obvious, but try and get as much sleep as you can, as you can never 100% guarantee when you next will. We’ve had countless experiences of thinking were going to get a good 6 hours at the hotel before the show, and a flight gets cancelled or a connection missed resulting in a sleepless night. We try not to use sleeping pills that often, red wine and a steak tend to help us sleep pretty well. Not necessarily recommended but worse case scenario we take Melatonin, and Xanax when we really need to sleep on a long flight.

4. Airport Food: It’s common knowledge that the quality of food in airports is pretty bad, we’ve been lucky enough to travel the States quite a bit and so far have found two exceptions, La Carreta, a Cuban Restaurant in Miami Airport, chicken and rice is always good. In Seattle airport look out for Ivars Fish Bar, tasty fresh seafood, we’d recommend the chowder and Fish Taco’s.

5. Hand Luggage: Whenever possible travel with hand luggage only, it’s a bit of a nightmare cramming everything into a single bag, but definitely the way forward. It’s inevitable that if your traveling a lot and checking luggage its going to get lost at some point. Also traveling with hand luggage is much quicker no waiting around for the luggage to turn up, the quicker you can get to the hotel or home the better.”
