Northlane – TOUR TIPS

This new set of Tour Tips was written by the Australian metalcore band, Northlane. You can check out their tips for being on the road, after the break.

1. Wardrobe organization. Pack enough underwear (including socks). I can’t stress the importance of this enough, you should have about a 1/2 ratio of normal shirts to pairs of underwear. Change underwear every day if you can and shirt every 2 days. If you keep your pants clean you won’t need too many sets. Most importantly, set aside some “show clothes”. This should be a full outfit (shirt, shorts/pants, socks, underwear, shoes). You only play in these clothes and then hang them up in your trailer. This way you won’t be walking around smelling like a piece of shit, nobody likes that, especially if they have to sit next to you in the van all day.

2. Take a SMALL carry-on size suitcase for your clothes. You don’t need a goliath-sized princess suitcase, just go to a laundromat once a fortnight, lazy.

3. Brush your teeth twice a day. Simple, but many hyena-breathed band dudes forget this and go and talk to fans. It’s not a hard thing to do and you should try to be as hygienic as you can when you’re on the road.

4. If you can’t have a shower, get body wipes and try to clean yourself that way. Don’t just let the sweat marinate. Another thing you can do in summer is go to public swimming pools and shower there if you are sleeping in the van.

5. Make sure you’re supplementing your diet and trying to eat as well as you can. I used to get sick every two weeks on tour. These days I take plant-based protein after I play, take multivitamins and a garlic, C and horseradish supplement and this way I stay regular and healthy. In some places it’s really hard to maintain a good diet so all of this will help (and your body will love you for it!).
