Native People – TOUR TIPS

In this Tour Tips segment, the power pop band, Native People, give you their tips for being on tour. You can check out the feature, after the break.

TOUR TIPS (NATIVE PEOPLE STYLE)
1 – GET ALONG WITH THE SOUND TECH
So basically, for the night the sound man/woman is your best friend! You’re old chums and it’s a pleasure to see each other again. They have the power to make you sound shit if your acting unprofessional or being rude that could happen! When turning up to the venue make sure you go and introduce yourself to the sound tech when their not busy. This just means you get an early introduction to each other and you can find out what the plan is for sound check. When it does come to your time to sound check if you’ve already built a conversation you’re going to feel more confident to ask for things whilst sound checking to enhance your live sound at the venue.

2 – TURN UP EARLY
Whenever your booking shows, make sure you know all the times you have to be there as early as possible to sort work or any other commitments that might hold you back. Set yourself more than enough time due to Travel, etc to get to the venue at the agreed time. You’re going to have more say in any events that unfold at the venue if you’re actually on time!

3 – TRY TO DIFFUSE ARGUMENTS QUICKLY
Being on tour means you’re around the same people all day every day for a period of time so you really want to try and make sure everyone’s getting along. Sometimes with no space, sleep, food, showers etc you start to feel tired of doing what you’re doing and may take it out on one of the others. Give yourself some time and try and find a way to diffuse band situations when they occur.

4 – SLEEP
Playing lots of shows night after night means lots of late nights and early starts when you’re traveling up and down the country. Make sure you’re having fun whilst doing the tour but try and get good amounts of sleep some nights. When you have to be out of a hostel at 9am, you’ll be really grateful you weren’t out till 6am…………..sometimes.

5 – SHOWER
So there’s 4 of us in the band and we have to spend all day together in the van, venue’s, getting food and in hostels. It’s slightly more pleasant if you don’t really stink being next to each other.

Keep up with the band on Facebook and Twitter!
