This is the story of a guitar solo gone horribly wrong. Note-wise, it was great. The guitarist even did that thing where you lay on the ground and shred. He stayed down there through the solo to the end of the song. He stayed down there after the song too. I was beginning to judge this guy like “Ok, come on, get up”. We slowly realized he actually could not get up… because his knee was broken.

So we’re up next on the bill and this guy cannot be moved off stage. He had this huge smile on and kept saying “Just set up around me!”. I walk towards the stage with my pedal board in hand and lay it down beside my fallen comrade. I’m on my hands and knees plugging everything in and crawling around this guy. He smiles and says “Hey I’m Jake!”. I still can’t believe how freakin’ happy he was throughout the entire thing.

Everyone was looking for something to do to distract us from the fact that a man was incapacitated on stage. We helped load the bands equipment off stage, brought water to the grounded guitar player, and tried to not to laugh too much.

Finally, a stretcher is paraded through the room with paramedics on each side. It felt like some weird deleted scene from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I waited for the EMT’s to spin the gurney around in circles while everyone danced and sang around it. Instead, we clapped and cheered as guitar hero is marched out the door. My friends in town were walking up to the venue when they were greeted with some dude throwing up horns being wheeled out.

We played a great set, but we all know who stole the show…

Keep up with the band on Facebook and Twitter!
