Cane Hill – TOUR TIPS

This new set of Tour Tips was written by Elijah Witt of the metal band, Cane Hill. You can check out their tips for being on the road, after the break.

Welcome to tour tips with Cane Hill y’all. Let’s go down the list.

1) Snacks on Snacks on Snacks. The more you tour the more you’ll realize the importance of bringing your own food. Whether the venue gives you a buy-out or catering, it’s never enough for your rigorous schedule. I mean, I suppose you could live off of taco bell, but then you’ll end up being absolutely obese, and that’s a bad gimmick.

2) Pack light. In my experience I’ve realized that I always over pack. I bring things I think I’ll want to wear, or things I think would look awesome off or on stage, but in reality the only thing I change day-to-day is my underwear and socks (so bring all of the underwear and socks you own. And not the cheap kind, that’s a rash waiting to happen). If I brought one pair of pants, three t-shirts, and my live gear, I’m set for a solid month. Remember, you can always find a cheap laundromat when you have an off day or an extra hour at the venue.

3) Your crew. Bring people you trust, but are reliable. We’ve brought friends out with us who we love, but in the end can’t preform up to snuff. When you’re choosing your crew make sure they’re as motivated as you are or they’ll just hold you back.

4) Every necessity you’ve ever had, and multiply that by two. Two phone chargers, two computer chargers, every tube of toothpaste you own, extra combs, etc. You will, I promise you, lose half of what you bring in the black abyss that is your van.

5) Entertainment. I can’t stress this one enough. You will be faced with upwards of 15 hour drives sometimes, and if you don’t have a long drive, that just means you’ll probably be hanging out a venue, hotel, or walmart, instead of in the van. Bring headphones (multiply that by two), books, gameboys or whatever is the cool handheld gaming device now, and whatever else keeps your mind working otherwise you’ll drive yourself, and everyone around you, insane.

If you’re going on tour make sure you stay safe, stay stoked, and stay healthy. No one wants to go to a show and see a band that’s demoralized and sick, so always be on your A-game with an awesome attitude and a nurtured body.
